EDDIE WOODS DOES IT AGAIN! TOP CONSIGNOR AT THE OBS MARCH SALES!

Eddie Woods has done it again. Last year he was the top consignor for the 2017 Spring OBS Breeders Sale, and this year he once again came out on top. Mr. Woods has been using APF Pro to prep the young horses for the sale for the last couple of years. "APF Pro is a valuable part of our sales operation," Mr. Woods has noted. "I find it especially useful in the management of unthrifty horses. The improvement in their coats and overall condition is obvious within a month.  When a horse at any level feels better, they're going to perform better."

The list above is of the top 20 two year olds sold. Mr. Woods accounted for four in the top 20. Overall he sold 15 horses at the sale, for a total of $4,915,000.00.

Miss Temple City Wins the Matriarch Stakes!

Miss Temple City made a stunning stretch run to win the Matriarch Stakes, a Grade I race at Del Mar last Sunday.

DEL MAR, Calif. – The ambitious 2016 campaign of Miss Temple City had the perfect ending on Sunday at Del Mar as she earned her third Grade 1 victory of the year by holding off Roca Rojo in the $302,070 Matriarch Stakes for female grass runners, the featured race here on closing day.

Miss Temple City raced in Kentucky, New York, California, and at Royal Ascot in England this year, and twice earlier in the year defeated males in Grade 1 races. That’s

the kind of resume that usually would get a filly a year-end championship, but Miss Temple City, 4, has the misfortune of being in the same category as Tepin, whose outstanding form – including a victory at Royal Ascot – should bring her a second Eclipse Award.

“I wish they’d retire Tepin,” Graham Motion, the trainer of Miss Temple City, joked after the race.
“Any other year she’d stand out,” Motion said of Miss Temple City.

Ring Weekend was eighth with a quarter-mile remaining, trailing Holy Lute by 4 1/2 lengths. With a furlong remaining, Summer Front, the 2-1 favorite, led by a length, but Ring Weekend closed steadily to reach the front in the final sixteenth and win by a length.

“I was surprised the other horse went by me so easily,” said jockey Victor Espinoza, who rode Summer Front.

Ring Weekend, trained by Graham Motion, put in a sizzling homestretch run to fly by the other horses!

Take Charge Indy Retired

WinStar Farm announced that grade I winner and millionaire Take Charge Indy has been retired from racing after surgery to repair his left foreleg resulting from an injury sustained in the July 28 A.P. Indy will stand at WinStar Farm for the 2014 breeding season.

Monmouth Cup (gr. II). The son of A.P. Indy will stand at WinStar Farm for the 2014 breeding season.
Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens said he heard a "loud pop" when 3-5 favorite Take Charge Indy was leading the field by 1 1/2 lengths through a :47.43 half-mile. He quickly eased the 4-year-old.
"I was on the lead with a big smile on my face. He was cruising. The only question was how much would he win by," Gary Stevens said.

The gallant horse handled the surgery to repair the fracture well and is expected to recover in fine shape.

Strathnaver is Bewitched!

Eighteen-to-one long shot, Strathnaver, casts a spell and wins the $150,000 Bewitch Stakes last Thursday at Keeneland.

Strathnaver, a 4-year-old English-bred filly trained by Graham Motion for owner Andrew Stone, charged past Regalo Mia in deep stretch to register a one-length triumph in the Bewitch, a 1 1/2-mile grass test for older fillies and mares.

"I got a perfect trip," said Rosario, the 28-year-old native of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. "Graham told me to just let her do whatever she wants and she did it."

A daughter of Oasis Dream, Strathnaver improved to 2-for-2 in the U.S. after beginning her career in England. Her winning time for the marathon event was 2:30.65 over firm going. The winner was bred by Mrs. C.R. Robinson and Mrs. H.G. Lascelles out of the Lahib mare River Belle.

No factor in the early going while racing eighth, Strathnaver responded when roused by Rosario with three furlongs to run. Despite having to circle the field seven wide into the stretch, the bay filly came flying through the lane to sweep past Regalo Mia at the furlong mark and won inching clear.

Take Charge Indy Finishes Second in the Skip Away Stakes

Take Charge Indy led the way throughout the $100,000 stakes race at Gulfstream Park, only to lose gamely in a homestretch challenge by Cigar Street. It was a great race between great horses.

Take Charge Indy will remain in training for 2013 and winter in South Florida to train for his 4-year-old campaign, which is expected to include a start in the Feb. 9 Donn Handicap (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park as an initial goal.
