California Stallion Tests Positive for Contagious Equine Metritis

On February 15, 2013, The National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, IA confirmed samples obtained from a 20-year old imported Lusitano stallion as positive for Contagious Equine Metritis (Taylorella equigenitalis), a venereal foreign animal disease of equines. The stallion was tested as a trace in the investigation of the 17-year old Lusitano mare confirmed positive for Contagious Equine Metritis on February 6, 2013. The quarantined mare and stallion are currently engaged in treatment and post-treatment testing protocols.
